Mechanical dials and gauges of the USS Missouri’s engines communicate what’s happening in the engine room with the bridge. These days, it’s all digital!

This pyrometer is much different than thermometers of the 21st Century. Antique technologies like this are seldom found still attached to the things they measure. USS Bowfin.

“Turn which dial to what?” Without proper training, the instrumentation of the USS Missouri would be difficult to tell!

“Full speed ahead!” The throttle position lever of the USS Missouri is one of the few technologies aboard large vessels which hasn’t changed!

The USS Oklahoma being launched on March 23, 1914 at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation’s yard in New Jersey. She was commissioned on May 2, 1916.

The USS Oklahoma and USS Nevada were the first two American battleships to use oil based fuels as opposed to coal fuel. Here she tests her new engines out during sea trials.

The USS Oklahoma was docked in Battleship Row in Pearl Harbor during the Japanese surprise attack. After being hit by 3 torpedos she began to roll over until her masts touched bottom less than 12 minutes after the attack began.

Salvage efforts to surface the sunken USS Oklahoma were tedious and time consuming. Her wrecked hull sank during a storm while being tugged through the Pacific. In 2006 the Navy recovered part of her mast which now is on display at Muskogee War Memorial Park in Oklahoma.
